Spreading Awareness and Creating Opportunities

Special Olympics of ArizonaOur foundation is pleased to announce that we are a new corporate partner of Special Olympics Arizona (SOAZ). Lerner and Rowe Gives Back’s partnership contributions will be used statewide to provide year-round opportunities for children and adults living with physical and intellectual disabilities to train for and participate in Olympic type sporting events.

Through these activities, each athlete is strongly encouraged and shown how to live healthy, fulfilling and meaningful lives to the fullest extent of their ability. Special Olympics sports also provide athletes a gateway to empowerment, competence, acceptance and joy that they freely share with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Awareness Events for Every Season 

Among the many social awareness engagements Special Olympics Arizona hosts during the summer, fall, winter and springs months, our $35,000 partnership contribution will be used to directly benefit the following SOAZ events:

  • Phoenix Breakfast with Champions (October 6)
  • River Area Breakfast with Champions (October 12)
  • Southern Arizona Breakfast with Champions (October 27)
  • Over the Edge (December 10)
  • Law Enforcement Torch Run (Spring 2017)

Special Olympics’ positive impact is felt across the world. The organization is often the only place where those living with intellectual disabilities are given an opportunity to participate in their communities and develop a firm belief in themselves.

It is a little known fact that more than half of adult Special Olympics athletes in the United States are employed, versus 10 percent of intellectually disabled persons who do not participate in Special Olympics.

$10k Donation to AZLEOS Project Blue – Back Pack to School

AZ Leos Project BlueToday our foundation donated $10k to AZLEOS Project Blue – Back “Pack” to School in support of community policing efforts in Maricopa County that demonstrate the positive effects that flourish when people join together to help build better tomorrows for our children and communities.

The donation will be used to purchase back to school items to fill 200+ backpacks, as well as gift cards, for students to purchase a new pair of shoes for the upcoming school year.

 

You Too Can Get Involved & Give Back

For the past 13 years, AZLEOS (Arizona Law Enforcement Outreach and Support) has taken proactive strides to support back to school events throughout Maricopa County. This year they focused their efforts on providing filled back packs to assist disadvantaged elementary students.

Giving Back – Donate to Back to School Tools Program

Lerner and Rowe Gives Back

For the sixth year in a row, our foundation teams up with Mathew Blades at Mix 96.9 to benefit the Worldly Kids Organization’s annual Back to School Tools Program. The organization’s primary focus is to serve the needs of disadvantaged and homeless youth in Arizona. As a sponsor of the 2016 Back to School Tools Program, we will match the first $2,500 to help Worldly Kid’s reach their 2016 goal of raising $12,000.

Reaching this phenomenal goal will mean that 1,200 students living with unique social and economic conditions will be given their very own backpack and various supplies for the upcoming school year.

Joins us today in helping make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged youth! Your donation, even if it’s as little as $9.69, will be used to give these students much needed school tools and a chance at a better education.

Bullhead City Water Drive for Homeless & Those At-risk

Our Bullhead City law office has also spearheaded a water drive in northern Arizona. Thanks to the support of local community members, we are even closer to reaching our goal of collecting 500 water cases by August 31st to benefit the River City Resource Center!

The River Resource Center is a volunteer-run facility run on behalf of the Social Services Interagency Council based out of Lake Havasu, Arizona. The Center offers assistance to homeless individuals and families and those at-risk of becoming homeless.

Make-A-Wish Arizona logoFor the second year, Lerner and Rowe Gives Back is a sponsor of Maggiano Scottsdale’s annual Make-A-Wish Casino fundraiser. We contributed $1,000 towards this event. Our donation will help offset operating costs so that 100% of tickets sales will be used to help grant the wish of Naomi, an 11-year-old girl fighting leukemia, who wished to travel to Hawaii with her family.

Our Illinois legal team partners with Elgin Downtown Neighborhood Association in support of Link Card Double Value Program offered to low-income families at the Downtown Elgin Harvest Market.2016-harvest-market-sign-300x200The seasonal outdoor farmers market is located at 200 North Grove Avenue in Downtown Elgin and is open:

  • Thursdays, June 2 – October 6
  • 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Over 500 people attend the market each week to enjoy live entertainment, a free kids program, local artisan items and locally grown fresh, quality vegetables, fruits, bread, meat, olives and spices. A full list of 2016 vendors, programs and more may be found at their website.

What is the Link Card Double Value Program?

BMO Harris, a local bank, created the “Link Card Double Value Program” to offer additional assistance to low-income families who use Illinois Link Cards.

In three easy steps, low-income families can receive an additional $20 match, per week, to buy fruits and vegetables and all kinds of groceries. Since the market is open for 18 consecutive weeks, that’s an additional $380 worth of food each family can potentially get throughout the season.

Thanks to you, not only I, but other homeless youth were able to experience how beautiful the town is from in the sky. We went up in the balloon named Top Of The Mornin’ and the pilot was amazing. I was able to fulfill a dream of mine and that means the world to me.

Kira’s Cure Bears Team – JDRF One Walk

Our Gives Back team joined the Kira’s Cure Bears for the 2016 JDRF One Walk in Phoenix. It was a beautiful day to walk alongside Kira in support of her hopeful quest to go from Type I Diabetes (T1D) to Type None.Each day Kira lives with the daily challenges of T1D, which include multiple cycles of blood sugar testing, insulin injections, middle of the night checks and constant carb counting. Despite these challenges, she does not let this disease stop her from living a full and active life.

Kira is a sophomore in high school with a 4.0 GPA, is involved in archery and her school paper, was awarded a Gammage Rising Star award by ASU’s Gammage Theater and is a member of the Key club and French club. Plus, her amazingly positive attitude makes her shine bright as a Youth Ambassador for JDRF.

This annual event is held by by the Glendale Chamber of Commerce and directly benefits Luke Air Force Base’s Operation WarmHeart.
