2023 October United Way Pantry Pack Sponsor

Committed to Combating Hunger in Maricopa County

United Way Pantry Pack event

Lerner and Rowe Gives Back has once again teamed up with ALT AZ 93.3 and the Valley of the Sun United Way in 2023 to help combat hunger in Maricopa County. Our team was pleased to donate $5,500 to help offset associated costs for purchasing shelf-stable pantry items.

As before, the goal of the October 2023 United Way Pantry Pack Program is to provide 1,500 meals to help ensure that local students and their families have enough food staples to get them through the month. United Way supplied the packs and our team joined ALT AZ 93-3 and Whataburger to assemble packs before they got delivered to a local school.

Participating schools include Roosevelt, Cartwright, and Murphy Elementary School Districts, as well as Academia Del Pueblo and Frank Elementary School located in South and Southwest Phoenix, Maryvale, and Guadalupe. Furthermore, these schools have free and reduced lunch eligibility rates of 81% to 99%. Each school also determines distribution of pantry pants to families that have the highest need.

What’s Inside Each United Way Pantry Pack?

Pantry Packs are filled with nutritional items that may include:

  • Oatmeal
  • Fruit cups
  • Granola bars
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Canned chicken
  • Peanut butter crackers

180 Sports AZ – LRGB Grant Recipient

Making sure that every kid has the opportunity and tools to play

Lerner & Rowe Gives Back had the honor of presenting a $5,000 grant check to 180 Sports AZ at Cortez High School to support their local athletics initiative, which is focused on enhancing youth sports organizations located within disadvantaged communities across Arizona.

More specifically, the project directly impacts five different teams and three school districts within underserved communities that have youth sports organizations, but lack the resources to provide lights, turf, uniforms, and proper equipment.

180 Sports AZ collaborates with the Positive Coaching Alliance and City Serve to identify individuals in need, ensuring that any raised funds are maximized for the most significant positive effect.

Child Crisis Arizona – LRGB Grant Recipient

Earlier this week our Lerner & Rowe Gives Back grant patrol team presented a $15,000 check to Child Crisis Arizona. As one of our 2023 grant recipients, this charity will apply gifted funds towards its Group Homes for Foster Teens.

The Group Homes are geared towards serving long-term residents (from birth through 21-years) and focuses heavily on life skills, education, and planning for post-secondary education to prepare the youth for exiting the child welfare system as adults.

In addition, program participants will receive essential wraparound services aimed at fostering healing, ensuring a sense of security and stability, and ultimately breaking the cycle of generational abuse, all in alignment with their vision of “Safe Kids. Strong Families.”

Mom’s Pantry – LRGB Grant Recipient

Making sure no man, woman, or child is hungry

Sadly, one in three households in Arizona experience food uncertainty. Thankfully, Mom’s Pantry shines like a beacon of hope during the current food drought that grossly impacts disadvantaged populations throughout the Phoenix Valley. As a 2023 Lerner & Rowe Gives Back grant recipient, Mom’s Pantry plans to use its $5,000 gift to stock the pantry with pallets of food, fresh fruits, and vegetables to last for the next quarter.

However, the need for proper nourishment is never ending and Mom’s Pantry continues to seek out resources to feed individuals, families, seniors, the disabled, the homeless, and more in need. Through empathy, deliberateness, and generous donations from individuals, grants, and corporations, Mom’s Pantry remains open so that every guest that seeks out help has enough food to last a week.

2023 Candlelighters Superhero 5K

Our Lerner and Rowe Gives Back Team enjoyed spending the afternoon with over a thousand superheroes at the 34th Candlelighters Superhero 5K at Mountain’s Edge Park in Las Vegas. The 2023 Candlelighters Superhero 5K marks the thirteenth year that we have been a community supporter of this phenomenal annual event.

We were equally thrilled to collaborate with others in contributing to the extraordinary success of this remarkable organization in 2023, as they achieved a fundraising milestone of over $340,000!

“No parent ever wants to hear the gut-wrenching words, ‘your child has cancer.’ We are so grateful for the Candlelighter Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern Nevada for the incredible work they do in providing emotional support, quality of life programs, and financial assistance for children and their families who are affected by childhood cancer.

The management, staff, volunteers, and donors are true superheroes. It is our honor to support this organization.”
