Valley Humane Society – LRGB Grant Recipient

Valley Humane Society - Check presentation

Today Lerner & Rowe Gives Back hit the road for a $5,000 check presentation in Casa Grande! We funded the Valley Humane Society’s “Last Litter” and “Forever Foster” programs. The picture of the puppies will be the first litter spayed and neutered with our grant dollars, and the picture of the single dog is the first dog to be able to go into their Forever Foster program.

The “Last Litter” program provides free spay/neuter to all adults when a litter of puppies is surrendered for adoption. The “Forever Foster” program places senior animals with single senior humans for the purpose of companionship and quality of life for both the dog and the human.

Valley Humane Society provides all necessary medical treatments and medication for these pets, to ensure that the “foster” is not taking on a huge financial burden. If necessary, they also provide food, bed, bowls, etc.

Gabriel’s Angels – LRGB Grant Recipient

Gabriel’s Angels

Lerner & Rowe Gives Back granted Gabriel’s Angels $5,000. The organization will use those funds to support its Pet Therapy program.

Gabriel’s Angels is unique in that it is one of the few pet therapy programs in Arizona with a structured curriculum created to respond to the needs of vulnerable children and youth.

How Does Gabriel’s Angels Directly Impact Local Community Members

Gabriel’s Angels Pet Therapy Program is designed to be offered in collaboration with partner agencies to their children. There is no cost to the participating agency to receive therapy visits for their children. Partner agencies commit to the visitation schedule and provide assistance in program evaluation.

Further, the goal of Gabriel’s Angels is to improve the emotional health and well-being of children and help them develop these core behaviors that are precursors to preventing at-risk behaviors:

  • Affiliation
  • Confidence
  • Empathy
  • Healthy attachments
  • Respect
  • Self-regulation
  • Tolerance

Gabriel’s Angels’ Pet Therapy visits create a bond of unconditional love between a therapy dog and child that allows for these core behaviors to be learned through regular interaction with the dog.

Once a child learns to be empathetic to and understand that the therapy dog has feelings, this becomes the bridge to enable children to be empathetic to each other. Behaviors, such as empathy, must be learned over time. The continual visits from the therapy dog enable this learning process to occur.

Kitchen on the Street – LRGB Grant Recipient

Kitchen on the Street check presentation

Lerner & Rowe Gives Back granted Kitchen on the Street with $5,000. The organization will use those funds to create 7,812 total nightly and weekend meals for food-insecure families.

Kitchen on the Street, Then and Now

Kitchen on the Street started in 2006 at a dinner table with friends. One friend was a teacher and saw a student digging in the trashcan and stuffing her pockets full of food to take home to her family due to not having enough food at home.

Since then, the organization has grown exponentially. As of 2023, the organization facilitates five programs created to help eliminate childhood hunger in Arizona and educate the community on the issues that result from food-insecurity to include:

  1. Bags of Hope
  2. Family Food Pantries
  3. Fresh On Deck
  4. Taking it to the Street
  5. Jr Board of Directors

An advantageous outcome for students engaging in these programs is a 12% enhancement in reading skills and a notable 26% improvement in math scores.

Approximately 400 dignitaries from all branches of local law enforcement agencies, as well as public and private service, took part in this wonderful night of networking with Nevada’s finest.

More About the L.E.A.D. Program

The L.E.A.D. program can have a positive impact on young individuals by equipping them with essential life skills and tools for success.

The curriculum’s emphasis on setting attainable goals, managing emotions, and effective communication is crucial for personal development and preparing young people for the challenges they might face as they grow up. These skills not only contribute to their immediate well-being but also help lay a strong foundation for their future endeavors.

2023 Backpack Tour Across America

2023 Albuquerque Backpack Giveaway

From July 19th through August 5th, Lerner and Rowe Injury Attorneys visited seven cities across the nation in support of the law firm’s annual free backpack giveaways. The main focus of each giveaway is to help support local communities by empowering youths with essential tools that will help them reach educational goals, as well as assisting families by offsetting costs as they prepare for the 2023 – 2024 school year.

Attorney Kevin Rowe shares more about the law firm’s annual backpack giveaway tour, “With only one backpack giveaway left, 2023 has thus far presented many phenomenal opportunities for our team members to build lasting connections with local community members. As we reflect back on each event, our team shares a genuine appreciation for all those who helped make this year’s backpack giveaways memorable.

That includes all of the gracious and understanding families, volunteers, and law enforcement officers that attended one of our neighborhood events—we couldn’t have done it without you and wouldn’t want to. Cheers to an amazing new school year full of fun, laughter, learning, and friendship.”

At the completion of its six-state charitable tour, law firm team members–with help from local law enforcement and charitable organizations–will have handed out 6,000 backpacks stuffed with school supplies in Yuma, AZ,  Imperial, CA (near El Centro), Albuquerque, NM, Tucson, AZ, Phoenix, AZ, Merrillville, AZ, and Las Vegas, NV for the total amount of $161,388.

“The yearly Backpack Giveaways have become a tradition for Lerner and Rowe Injury Attorneys. This is due to our understanding of the significant impact that providing underprivileged local children and their families with free backpacks filled with school supplies can have on their lives.

Additionally, we extend our gratitude to the educators, staff members, and CCSD officers who played a vital role in ensuring the success of this year’s Las Vegas backpack giveaway event. Their contributions were instrumental in making it a truly remarkable occasion,” expressed attorney Glen Lerner

Make-A-Wish Disney World Sendoff

Make-A-Wish Disney World Sendoff

On August 6th, 5 members from our Phoenix team had the amazing opportunity to help make a child’s wish come true! They arrived at an American Airlines counter at 7:30 a.m. to cheer on 3-year-old Ava and her family before they departed on their dream trip to Disney World.

Team member Kayla (Smith) Behr shared her thoughts and feelings about being part of this special sendoff:

“Volunteering with Make A Wish was the most rewarding experience. I had the honor of walking Ava to her gate in the airport and helping her feel like the princess she is. The joy and love that I was able to witness in Ava and all those around her was by far the best part.”

Who Is Eligible for a Wish?

Make-A-Wish grants wishes to children who meet two preliminary criteria:

  1. Children who are older than 2 ½ years and younger than 18
  2. Children who have been diagnosed with a critical illness i.e., a progressive, degenerative, or malignant medical condition that has placed the child’s life in jeopardy.

Make-A-Wish ask that only the following individuals refer a child out of respect for the privacy of families they serve:

  • Parents or legal guardians,
  • family members with detailed knowledge of the child’s current medical condition,
  • Medical Professionals such as providers (doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant), nurse, social worker, or child-life specialist

Please visit wish.org/arizona to learn more about wish referrals and how you too can help make life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses come true.

August 6th Make-A-Wish Disney World sendoff photos and cherished moments shared by Ava’s family:

There were so many amazing parts! It started off with a band and the mini parade through the airport brought me to tears and Ava loved being the center of attention. Every person we encountered was kind and genuine. She loved meeting all the characters and exploring all the different parks.
