Lerner and Rowe employees were able to help the Arizona Association for Foster and Adoptive Parents (AZAFAP) over the past month by collecting over 500 new pairs of socks benefitting the kids.
More About AZAFAP
According to data shared by AZAFAP, the number of children in foster care in Arizona is over 13,000 and their foster care ‘experience’ is not improving. Caregivers (foster and adoptive families and kinship caregivers) still do not receive the support they need.

From July 19th through August 5th, Lerner and Rowe Injury Attorneys visited seven cities across the nation in support of the law firm’s annual free backpack giveaways. The main focus of each giveaway is to help support local communities by empowering youths with essential tools that will help them reach educational goals, as well as assisting families by offsetting costs as they prepare for the 2023 – 2024 school year.
Attorney Kevin Rowe shares more about the law firm’s annual backpack giveaway tour, “With only one backpack giveaway left, 2023 has thus far presented many phenomenal opportunities for our team members to build lasting connections with local community members. As we reflect back on each event, our team shares a genuine appreciation for all those who helped make this year’s backpack giveaways memorable.
That includes all of the gracious and understanding families, volunteers, and law enforcement officers that attended one of our neighborhood events—we couldn’t have done it without you and wouldn’t want to. Cheers to an amazing new school year full of fun, laughter, learning, and friendship.”
At the completion of its six-state charitable tour, law firm team members–with help from local law enforcement and charitable organizations–will have handed out 6,000 backpacks stuffed with school supplies in Yuma, AZ, Imperial, CA (near El Centro), Albuquerque, NM, Tucson, AZ, Phoenix, AZ, Merrillville, AZ, and Las Vegas, NV for the total amount of $161,388.
“The yearly Backpack Giveaways have become a tradition for Lerner and Rowe Injury Attorneys. This is due to our understanding of the significant impact that providing underprivileged local children and their families with free backpacks filled with school supplies can have on their lives.
Additionally, we extend our gratitude to the educators, staff members, and CCSD officers who played a vital role in ensuring the success of this year’s Las Vegas backpack giveaway event. Their contributions were instrumental in making it a truly remarkable occasion,” expressed attorney Glen Lerner.

On August 6th, 5 members from our Phoenix team had the amazing opportunity to help make a child’s wish come true! They arrived at an American Airlines counter at 7:30 a.m. to cheer on 3-year-old Ava and her family before they departed on their dream trip to Disney World.
Team member Kayla (Smith) Behr shared her thoughts and feelings about being part of this special sendoff:
“Volunteering with Make A Wish was the most rewarding experience. I had the honor of walking Ava to her gate in the airport and helping her feel like the princess she is. The joy and love that I was able to witness in Ava and all those around her was by far the best part.”
Who Is Eligible for a Wish?
Make-A-Wish grants wishes to children who meet two preliminary criteria:
Children who are older than 2 ½ years and younger than 18
Children who have been diagnosed with a critical illness i.e., a progressive, degenerative, or malignant medical condition that has placed the child’s life in jeopardy.
Make-A-Wish ask that only the following individuals refer a child out of respect for the privacy of families they serve:
Parents or legal guardians,
family members with detailed knowledge of the child’s current medical condition,
Medical Professionals such as providers (doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant), nurse, social worker, or child-life specialist
Please visit wish.org/arizona to learn more about wish referrals and how you too can help make life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses come true.
August 6th Make-A-Wish Disney World sendoff photos and cherished moments shared by Ava’s family:
There were so many amazing parts! It started off with a band and the mini parade through the airport brought me to tears and Ava loved being the center of attention. Every person we encountered was kind and genuine. She loved meeting all the characters and exploring all the different parks.

1. Increasing students’ knowledge gain (around work-readiness and financial literacy) by at least 20% by the end of the program.
2. Introducing students to various career paths and industries, teach them how an economy functions, and help them understand their place in the workforce as well as how good jobs can provide a good life.
3. Providing students with specific economic concepts, financial literacy skills, and work readiness fundamentals such as how to: create a business plan, calculate operating costs, apply for a job, vote for city officials, and explore different careers.
